Anomaly Cafe Role Cards

Why role cards beat “everyone help”

When Anomaly Cafe lobbies swell toward 24 players, goodwill without jobs becomes stampede. These role cards give each person a one-screen job description you can paste in chat before the rush. Use them with Co-op Tips, Solo vs Co-op, and Callout Sheet.

Card A — Counter lead

Owns: tickets, machine finishes, saying when the line is red.

Says: “Counter online — ping me for line problems.”

Does not: abandon drinks for vanity hunts.

Reads: Recipes and Serving, Shift Checklist.

Card B — Runner / floor

Owns: deliveries, trash, keeping paths open for emergencies.

Says: “Runner online — call blocked paths.”

Does not: craft complex drinks during a hard tell.

Reads: Café Map, Common Mistakes.

Card C — Watch / anomalies

Owns: walls, props, audio baseline, soft calls.

Says: “Watch online — I own walls and audio.”

Does not: hard-call without a second signal (False Alarms).

Reads: Spotting Checklist, Sound Cues, Survive Anomalies.

Card D — Flex (large lobbies)

Owns: swapping to whichever lane is drowning.

Says: “Flex online — call who needs hands.”

Does not: invent a fourth permanent job that steals from counter.

Opening paste block

Roles tonight:
Counter: ___
Runner: ___
Watch: ___
Flex: ___
Soft = glance. Hard = two signals. No code hunting — Active Codes is empty.
Latest Update link if place timestamp moved.

Mid-shift reset lines

  • “Reset roles — too many cooks.”
  • “Counter stays — watch confirm seating.”
  • “Clear — false alarm — tickets resume.”

Duo and trio adaptations

  • Duo: one counter-flex + one watch-runner hybrid (Solo vs Co-op).
  • Trio: classic counter / runner / watch.
  • 12+: add flex cards; never delete watch.

After patch nights

When Latest Update moves, re-announce zone names before roles. Dead landmark language is a silent wipe (Alpha Patch Notes).

Print the cards in chat. Jobs first, memes after the shift.

Why cards beat long essays

Essays get ignored at rush. Cards survive paste. If your Discord pin is longer than ten lines, cut it until it matches these cards plus Callout Sheet grammar.

Measuring whether roles worked

End of night: Was counter staffed during the scariest minute? Did watch soft-call before hard-call? Did runners keep a path to the door? Three yes answers mean the cards are working—keep them. Three no answers mean rewrite names, not invent scripts from Working Scripts.

Teaching a brand-new friend

Hand them Card B (runner) first. Runner learns landmarks without owning life-or-death calls. Graduate to watch after they survive Beginner Priority basics.

Example full paste for a twelve-player lobby

Anomaly Cafe roles:
Counter lead: Alex — owns tickets
Counter support: Sam — backs machines
Runner 1: Lee — seating + trash
Runner 2: Kai — prep paths
Watch 1: Rio — walls left + audio
Watch 2: Quin — walls right + props
Flex: Morgan — swap to drowning lane
Grammar: object + zone + soft/mid/hard
No codes — Active Codes empty. Check Latest Update if timestamp moved.

Adapt names; keep the jobs. If someone joins late, paste the block again instead of explaining for five minutes while tickets die.

Conflict resolution when two people claim watch

The earlier paste wins, or the counter lead assigns. Do not argue mid-rush. Move the second volunteer to flex. Ego battles are just Common Mistakes wearing a different hat.

Linking cards to danger tiers

When Danger Tier says freeze, counter lead freezes tickets and watch owns the call. When the tier is training-only, soft calls stay soft. Role cards without tier literacy become theater.

Closing reminder

Cards are living documents. After Latest Update moves a landmark, edit the paste the same night. A pretty card with dead zone names is worse than a messy voice chat that still uses live map language from Café Map.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Do we need all four cards every night?

No. Duo and trio merge jobs. Keep watch coverage somehow—even if it is a hybrid role.

Can two people share counter?

Yes in huge lobbies, but name a lead so ticket ownership stays clear.

Where do callouts fit?

Every card uses Callout Sheet grammar. Watch initiates most soft calls; anyone can escalate with a second signal.

Should role cards mention codes?

Only to say Active Codes is empty until verified—so the lobby does not derail into rumor hunting.
